2019 AOP Coteaux Bourguignons
Gamay, sourced from Juliénas in Beaujolais, reclassified as Coteaux Bourguignons. 10 days maceration, then aged in old barrels for 6 months. Zero SO2.
Red purple colour. Less alcohol this year, so good. Super expressive nose. Grapey, boysenberry, blackberry and bramble. Red cherry freshness. Black roses. A little bit exotic. This has a lot of fruit. Very clean, no brett. Some savoury tinges in the background, but only just. Supple, juicy, nice delivery. Very easy, young and fresh. Fine tannins, medium acidity. Much lighter than previous years, but still has heaps of flavour. Bright, tension is there. But really this is super juicy – and linear. Nice drying tannins that are almost non-existent, but add to the structure. Old burgundy barrel smells in the background, adds to its detail. Juicy sweet fruit, tart acidity - just a juicy well-made gamay that you want to smash! Serve chilled.
