100% Cabernet Franc from their oldest parcel of Cabernet, planted in 1953 (hence the name). They prefer to let the fruit shine with Cabernet, and not mask it with oak. So they de-stem the grapes carefully keeping the berries whole, before macerating for 10 days. They then press, and age in tank for one year. Zero added SO2. Not fined or filtered.
This is a very charming expression of Cabernet Franc, without any hard edges. Nostalgic, and smells distinctly French. It has classic Cab Franc aromas without the green bell pepper. Cassis, plum, chocolate, cherries, wild flowers and spice. It has a bit more weight than the other two reds but is quite soft and smooth in the mouth. It finishes with fine tannins. This one demands food, and would be a great accomplice to charcuterie or meat dishes. It's really nice to see just the fruit here, without stems and oak. Dreaming of cooler nights by the fireplace!
