2019 AOC Chénas 'Les Journets'

Domaine Saint-Cyr

Regular price $65 750ml Sale

This 2ha plot was purchased by the family in 2017, and in 2019 was in its 3rd year of conversion to organic. Very poor soils here, with white granite, and quite rocky at 30cm of depth. Some vines are 25 years old, while others are 55 years old. 23 days cold carbonic maceration, and then 50% aged in old barrels and 50% in concrete, for 10 months. 10mg/L SO2 before bottling.

Lots of exotic spice on the nose. Violets, red cherries and sandalwood. Tamarind and chocolate. Light in the mouth – light flavours and featherweight – even though the palate is creamy. Smooth to drink, soft and sensual, with lovely spice and tannin on the finish. Less fruit here, and more of a complete and complex wine showing many layers. Finishes long, with fine grainy tannins. Drink now or age if you wish.
