2011 VDF 'L'Insoumis du Village'

Reynald Héaulé

Regular price $45 750ml Sale

Mainly Cabernet Franc with 6 other varieties - all organic. De-stemmed by hand. Fermented separately, then 30 months élevage in old demi-muid. Kept in bottle for another 20 months before release.

Darker in colour, but still transparent and hinting at bricking. Still very youthful on the nose for a 9 year old wine. Mellowed notes of boysenberries, blackberries, sage, cocoa, spice, violets. The Cabernet Franc is prominent, with the other varieties, weaved into its frame. The old school Cabernet smell is soft and divine, reminiscent of some of the greats, smooth and elegant. Notes of currants and cassis, and gently savoury in the background. Ultimately charming. Fresh in the mouth, fine and linear also. The flavours are beginning to show tertiary characteristics, but this is still in its youth. Tastes bright, clean and lightweight in the mouth, with medium plus acidity and very fine tannins on the finish. It almost feels like you’re drinking pinot, it’s so elegant. But the savoury flavours tell you otherwise, but still keep you guessing to what the blend is. Super fine tannins stick to the mouth. Very old school style of wine.
