2019 VDF 'Bruno, Bert & Co'

Domaine la Taupe

Regular price $49 750ml Sale

100% Côt (Malbec) from young vines, grown on clay and limestone, with some silex. Short 6 day maceration, then transferred to old barrels to age for 10 months. Not fined or filtered, and zero added sulfites. In 2019, they decided to shorten the maceration, to have less extraction, and create a wine with more drinkability. The result is a vibrant and expressive wine with lots of flavour, but without the heaviness that we sometimes find with the variety.

Inky purple colour, but more transparent than usual. Red tinges at the sides. The nose is majorly expressive. Very clean and clear. Blackberry and boysenberry dominate, but this includes the whole bush and not just the fruit. Some light liquorice notes. The texture is alive, this has super energy. Very vibrant in the mouth, with a full mid palate, Medium plus acidity, and super fine tannins. Nice little sour edge on the finish to round it out. After you think it’s finished, you get that minerality. Silex. Background slice and crunch. Very good tension. Overall this is young and juicy, but packed with detail. The expressiveness is testament to why zero SO2 wines when made correctly, are on another level. Serve slightly chilled.
