The organic grapes are grown in the village of Chânes and in the Cru of Saint-Amour, by Julie's good friends Gilles & Jérôme Courtois. The soils are sandy with large pebbles in Saint Amour, as well as pink granite in Chânes. The grapes are cooled for 24 hours and then undergo 3 weeks carbonic maceration. The wine is then aged in old barrels for 8 months. Not fined or filtered, and no added SO2 at any stage.
Dark appearance. Nose of blueberries, dark chocolate and integrated VA. Relatively closed on the nose for now. Silky on the palate, with lifted light fruit that surrounds a dense core. Lots of phenolic matter, and cocoa like tannins. The acidity is bright, and mixed with blueberry, cherry and boysenberry flavours. Nice with some air, it opens up and the mid palate matter is excellent. Later it shows some lighter notes - strawberry and cherry fruit. Drink slightly chilled.
