Chardonnay purchased from a grower who's vineyard has been certified organic for over 15 years. The soils here have an extremely high limestone content. Direct press, then aged in old barrels for one year. <30mg SO2 at bottling.
Lovely golden colour. Aromas of citrus, honey, butter, yellow fruits and peach. In the background you have a faint notes of smokiness, minerals, acacia, nougat and white flowers. Slightly more weighty this year, reflective of the vintage. The fruit is ripe, but not in a tropical sense - they've managed this extremely well, as there is a good deal of acidity to provide balance. If you had a scale from zippy to flamboyant, this sits in the middle. Clean on the palate, very fresh, and displays a nice flinty aspect. Peach, nectarine, a touch of slightly unripe pineapple, and grapefruit play their part. Creamy and rich, with bright acidity. Lavish and lusty. A very nice example that is open for business now, and will develop nicely over the next few years.
