Gamay from 70 year old vines grown on clay and limestone, planted by Raphaël’s Grandfather. Whole bunch cold carbonic maceration for 15 days, then aged in concrete for 8 months. 10ppm SO2 before bottling.
Wow! Big aromas straight away. Young purple fruit, lots of herbs and cedar. Nice stem addition, the ripeness level gives extra interest. Beautiful perfume. To taste there is lots of tart cherry acidity which manages the ripe fruit perfectly. Pomegranate, fine tannins and nice tension. A very complete wine in that it has depth yet freshness. So much drive and tension. Love the tart/sourness of the acidity. And so much juicy flavour, Very linear, very juicy, especially for 2018. Limestone tension for sure. The flavours of the fruit are so good. Depth but with light trimmings, lifting it up until it’s soaring. Will age well no doubt as well, but for now it's my go-to. Served chilled.
