2018 AOP Arbois 'Montalaboz'
100% Chardonnay from 35 year old vines, grown on marl and lots of limestone. Aged in old 3,000L foudre for 18 months, and topped up weekly.
That yellow Jura colour. Aromas of honey, nectarine, almond, cream, minerals - screams Jura! In fact, way more typical than usual for them. The wine is very free in its expression, and clear. To drink – slippery, smooth, creamy, and with medium acidity. It has golden notes with nectar, and lots of mineral layers and details. Pastry from vanilla tart, lemon, yellow apple, the faintest touch of spice. Very Jura-esque. Reminiscent of wines from Ganevat or Les Dolomies. Sweeter fruit, more spice on finish, and gentle tension. That creaming soda aspect. Super mineral to smell after some air. Texture and delivery are really nice. Very easy to drink, yum. More texture and less acidity means more snack friendly and less palate fatigue. Really surprisingly good. Long finish.
