In 2012, the domaine was given permission to completely clear a hillside of forest in the commune of Mûrs-Erigné, where they proceeded to plant 2ha of sélection massale Chenin. Covered in blue and black schist (as pictured above in the photo), this is one of the most incredible terroirs in the Maine-et-Loire. Aged in old 600 litre barrels for one year. Zero SO2.
Yellow colour. Almost honey yellow. Apples, lemons, orange blossom, honey, sea and schist. To taste it is fresh and clean. Lovely texture with sweet fruit and bright acidity. Quite icy too. Layers of mouth coating flavour. Well balanced between density and drive. A very pristine example of Chenin that shows beautiful restraint from every angle. Not as showy as Fragile, but more focused and precise. Clean and pretty. It's great to decant this wine as it unravels many more layers while tightening up at the same time. A really superb Chenin made from exceptional terroir.
