2021 VDF ‘Les Cocus’

Marie-Lise & Thomas Batardière

Regular price $100 750ml Sale

From a 0.6ha parcel situated between Montbenault and Les Aussigouins - perhaps the two best sites in the area. Planted in 1958, this parcel sits right at the top of the hill. The vines are grown on schist bedrock, and there isn’t much topsoil. Certified biodynamic. Direct press. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Zero additions. Aged in 5 year old 500L barrels for 11 months, then another two months in tank before bottling. Zero added SO2. 13%

Gentle struck match reduction, with a crystalline purity lying underneath. You know you're in for a treat here. This is super mineral on the nose - you have the impression of slabs of schist grinding together. Yes – fruit, but mineral overdose. Fresh apples, lemon, and a slight lick of honeydew. Huge tension and lingering acidity. Very fine with lots of drive. Is someone microplaning schist dust all over my tongue?! Immense!
