100% Chenin Blanc from a 0.6ha parcel situated between Montbenault and Les Aussigouins - perhaps the two best sites in the area. Planted in 1958, this parcel sits right at the top of the hill. The vines are grown on schist bedrock, and there isn’t much topsoil. Aged in old 500L barrels for 10 months, then another two months in tank before bottling. 10mg/L added SO2.
Flinty reduction. Yellow plum, pear, nashi, and dried white flowers. Super mineral/schisty on the nose. Very light in the mouth, but still with lots of depth and flavour. Light and free, with apples, pears, lemon, honey essence (not sweet). Long and beautiful with a saline edge. Super mineral on the finish – like really mineral. Loose knit texture and mouthfeel. Not much honey here really at all, more mineral. Later, when the reduction clears, the perfume is really floral and pretty. Light, linear and full of tension.
