In 2012, the domaine was given permission to completely clear a hillside of forest in the commune of Mûrs-Erigné, and plant 2ha of sélection massale Chenin. Covered in black schist (as pictured in photo), this is one of the most incredible terroirs in the Maine-et-Loire. 2017 is the second vintage, and is super impressive. In years to come, this site has potential to deliver some of the finest Chenin in Anjou. Raised in old barrels of various sizes for one year. Bottled with a tiny amount of SO2.
Smells like schist and apples. Texture is like refined apple juice with delicate fruits, but finishes with that mouth tightening schisty tension. Lots of energy, with very clean and precise flavours. Linear on the palate, with delicate texture, and extraordinary length. It's amazing to taste wine from these young vines, especially when it's this good - and it will be interesting to watch the wines that come from this amazing site over the years.
